Statement Intent for Design and Technology

St John the Baptist Primary School is committed to delivering an ambitious design and technology curriculum that is relevant to our rapidly evolving society. We aim to foster autonomy and creativity in our students, empowering them to tackle problems through shared or individual projects in response to a design brief.

Our curriculum is designed to ensure progression, building on prior knowledge and providing a broad range of skills to equip our students for the future.

Evaluation is a fundamental part of the design process, and our students are taught to evaluate existing products before designing their own. Reflection on the final outcome is encouraged, and we guide our students in discussing possible improvements that could be made.

By reflecting on both past and present design and technology, our students develop a critical understanding of its uses, effectiveness, and impact on daily life and the wider world. Our whole curriculum is shaped by our school vision to enable all students, regardless of their background, ability, or additional needs, to flourish and become the best possible versions of themselves.
