Meet Our Governors

Mr Mark Scott

Chair of Governors

I have served as a Foundation Governor for 10 years and Chair of Governors for the past two. The school has been a big part of my life for over 23 years, with all five of my children educated here. As Chair, I’m committed to ensuring that every child achieves their full potential in a happy, inclusive environment. I work closely with the Headteacher, WSCC, Diocese, and governing body to maintain high standards, uphold our Christian values, and strengthen our community links. In my professional life, I work in the field of IT data centre efficiency, security, and resilience helping to ensure that people can shop online, connect on social media, and enjoy gaming safely. Personally though, I’m a big fan of turning off the tech and getting outdoors, cycling and dragging my children (and the dog) out on the longest walks I can get away with!

Mr John Roche

Vice Chair

I have been a governor at this school for 30 years, having originally joined as a parent governor; nowadays I am a PCC appointment. I have previously chaired the GB for 8 years, and I am now vice-chair of Governors and act as the community link-governor. I have lived in Findon for 44 years and am a retired telecoms engineering project manager.

Mrs Millie Langford

Parent Governor

I have two boys (one of whom is a current St John’s pupil) and live in Findon Village. In fact, I was born in Findon and attended the school myself as a pupil. I currently teach Year Five children at a large local junior school having qualified from the University of Brighton in 2009. I have also studied as a primary maths specialist teacher and enjoy leading maths when not teaching in the classroom. I have been a governor at St John’s for 3 years.

Mr Martin Lloyd

Foundation Governor

I have been involved with the school for the last 24 years; first as a diocesan schools' adviser, then as clerk to governors and more recently as a foundation governor. I worked in education for over 40 years and my last full-time job before retirement was as Assistant Director of Education for the Diocese of Chichester. In retirement, I work as a volunteer for the National Trust at Petworth House and in the British Heart Foundation shop in Worthing. I am a trustee of three charities, a governor of a small preschool judged as outstanding by Ofsted and I am lay chair of the Worthing Deanery Synod (Church of England). I belong to groups for walking and ten pin bowling!

Mr Chris Luckin

Foundation Governor

I am delighted to be a Governor at St. John the Baptist Primary School and have been appointed by the Diocesan Board of Education as a Foundation Governor representing the interests of the Church of England along side the vicar and other Foundation Governors. My association with Findon goes back to the 1950s when I was a frequent visitor to my family. During a career of 43 years, working in primary schools, I was a head teacher for 31 years sequentially in one combined school followed by two primary schools with the third being in Steyning. My interests, apart from Brighton and Hove Albion, are in how children learn, their needs as individuals and how teachers teach.

Mrs Emily Petitt

Parent

Mrs Anne Prior

Local Authority Governor

I have lived in Findon for nearly 60 years and have been a governor at St John The Baptist School for over 40 years; with all three of my children having attended the school. I am currently and have been for some years, a Local Education Authority governor. I have a wide experience of school governance, through SJTB, as well as over ten years as Chair of Governors at The Angmering school and many more years on the governing body. I am a retired cookery teacher.

Mr André Suwalsky

Clerk to the Governors

I am Clerk to the Governing Body of St John the Baptist school since January 2025. I am French and bilingual. I have lived in Findon Valley, Worthing, since 1996. I am married to a Cumbrian woman and have three grown up children and three grand children. One of my children, Jonathan, attended St John the Baptist school. In France, I was an assistant general manager at St Anne Hospital in Paris. In England, I studied at Northbrook College and got an HNC in Business and Finance. I also took a level 4 accountancy technician qualification. In parallel, and in my spare time, I have taught French privately to children, including with the “Club Français” in schools, and adults. I am now retired and still teach French on-line and try to keep on top of my garden duties. My last Job was Work Coach at Worthing Job Centre Plus. Before that, I did several accountancy jobs for small firms, including Honorary Treasurer at the Sidney Walter centre in Worthing in the early 2000’s.
